Steps To Save Money On Hotels

Posted February 2nd, 2011

Your vacation may not be the time when you want to think about the budget, but usually it is required.

Going away on trips is necessary to staying sane in the world of children, work, carpools, and bills. We need it and truly do deserve some time away from our everyday lives, but the cost of doing so is sometimes prohibitive. Before you decide that you simply cannot afford to take a holiday this year, consider some of the ways you can cut back on the cost of accommodations, leaving more cash in your budget for fun.

How To Save Money On Hotels

Plan your holiday in the off season – If you can manage to take a trip when your destination is not crawling with other tourists, you can get excellent deals. Hotels do not make any money if the rooms are not booked so during the off season they drop their rates in order to fill the beds. Do some research to see when the off season for your destination occurs and try to visit at that time.

Sign up for the rewards programme – Most big chains have a reward or bonus programme that is free to join. Each time you stay at that chain, all you have to do is present your card to get instant discounts, upgrades, or to earn points. Eventually, you could earn enough points to get a free night or two at any of their locations.

Stay longer – It sounds counter intuitive, but booking a room for just one night sometimes costs more then booking for two or three. Longer stays usually allow for waived booking fees or even getting a night free. At the very least, you can maximise your money with this approach.

Get a package deal – Those holiday packages that you see advertised are often excellent deals. When the cost of airfare and accommodations are combined, you save loads of cash. Sometimes you wind up getting your room for half the cost as you would have if you had booked it separately.

Use the internet - Just as you probably expected, going online for your travel bookings can mean getting a great deal. Travel web sites are extremely competitive with each other so you can surf from one to another looking for the right price and eventually find it. You can even use one of the sites that let’s you name your own price. Go ahead and low ball it to begin with, you might just get a rock bottom deal on a top notch suite.

Ask for discounts – Almost every hotel offers discounts to senior citizens, students, members of the military, or members of travel clubs. Ask what sort of discounts there are or simply present your identification card to save on your room.

You do not have to skimp on quality to save money. Just do some research and do not settle until you get the accommodations you want at the price you are willing to pay.
