5 Top Money Savings Tips to Balance Your Budget

There are many products we buy on a regular basis, convincing ourselves they are necessary and essential to our existence. However, there is some money savings to be had if we take a hard and honest look at some of the purchases we make and decide to try getting by without the products we really don’t need.

1 – Money Savings on Convenience Foods

Lifestyles are rushed and hurried, and it’s often easier to throw caution to the wind when it comes to money savings and convenience foods. Smart meal planning is not that difficult and it can result in money savings you can use to keep more cash in your wallet.

If you check food labels, you’ll find that prepared convenience foods are usually loaded with sodium, which is not healthy for you. The microwave is not the only way to cook meals quickly. There are plenty of low budget nutritious meals you can make using your crock pot, the oven, the stove top, or without having to cook at all.

Plan your meals for the week on Friday and shop on Saturday. Make a menu plan that includes all the meals you eat at home for the entire week. With a little planning ahead, you can also find ways to pack a lunch to take with you to work which will result in even more money savings.

2 – Money Savings on Cleaning Products

The cleaning product advertising world has a cleanser for everything now. There’s a product for the tub, one for the sinks, one for the windows, another for the light fixtures, and the list goes on. If you purchase a different product for everything that requires cleaning in your home, you’ll have to build a special area just to store them all.

You might be shocked to know that most of those products all contain the same ingredients. There is money savings to be had by condensing into fewer products and even making some of your own. You need a product that cleans, kills germs, and disinfects. Household bleach is a great product to use for cleaning. Ammonia is another good one.

Don’t get sold by all those advertisements trying to convince you to become product poor.

3 – Money Savings from Sensible Shopping

Whoever thought you could save money by shopping sensibly? Shop on the way to and from work and buy fresh vegetables and fruits in smaller quantities. Most all of us plan on being home more than we are and we buy more fresh food than we need, which ends up going bad before we consume it resulting in wasted money. Your lunch break is another good time to pick up a few fresh food items, and while you’re at the store, grab something for yourself to eat on your lunch or snack break. Fresh food is so healthy for you!

4 – Money Savings by Controlling Impulse Buying

Make every purchase a well thought out decision. I have found that by mulling over every product I put in the grocery basket, I can do without 25% to 50% of them. Before you put that bottle of barbecue sauce in the buggy, for example, consider making your own instead. Plan your menu for the week around products that are on special.

5 – Alcohol Money Savings

Okay, maybe you don’t have to cut alcohol out altogether, but you might consider cutting back. If you do enjoy a cocktail or two during the week, make your drinks at home. You can make your own drinks at home for much less than they sell for in the local tavern or bar. Too much of a good thing, also, is not good for anyone, so in this instance less is truly more in many ways, including saving money.
