High Interest Online Savings Account

Posted August 6th, 2010

While it is true that the interest rates being offered on high interest online savings accounts are indeed high when compared to the more traditional savings accounts, even when compared to the exclusive high yield accounts on limited offer to chosen customers only, but there remains other terms and conditions that sometimes apply that you should be fully aware of.

The two secrets of enjoying a successful high interest internet savings account remain the same for all online savings accounts; they are that of interest rates and transfer time.

High Interest Online savings Account – Interest.

Always know your savings account average balance and the interest the money in that account is earning. There are some high interest online saving accounts that return a low interest when your balance drops, then again there are other accounts that retain the high interest payment despite the balance remaining in the account.  Some accounts will retain their high interest yield even when the account balance drops down as low as just $1.00.

There are some high interest online savings accounts that promote a feature called ‘bonus’ interest being paid if you don’t make any withdrawals from the account during the course of a month.

This is where the fine print in the terms and conditions become important because you may also stand to lose all the interest you could have been expected to receive for that entire month if you weakened your resolve and withdrew the smallest of withdrawals in that time.  This penalty may not have been promoted the same as the ‘bonus’ interest payment was for holding strong.

It is a case of being aware and if you can satisfy yourself that you won’t be tempted to delve into your riches and can show restraint then the ‘bonus’ interest rate option can be a very worthwhile consideration.

High Interest Online Savings account – Transfer time.

Not an aspect of saving that takes up much deep thought but it nether-the-less is important in helping you to maximize your return on your investment at all times, it is that of transfer time.

Transfer time is simply the time taken to transfer your money between your transaction account and your high interest online savings account especially when you are using two different financial institutions.

If you are using one financial institution to invest in your high interest internet savings account, because of the better interest return you are receiving on your money,  but you have another financial institution handling your other financial affairs, such as the account you use for transaction purposes, the time taken to effect the transfer of funds can take from one to three days.  This transaction time is money lost.

Your money will not be earning interest whilst being transferred and you will not be able to access your money until the transfer is complete.  This means that you will be forced to plan a couple of days ahead before effecting any transfer.  Time a busy person may not always have to spare without an element of frustration surfacing.

If you have both the investment account and the transaction account with the one financial institution such transactions can be done on the internet, or even over the phone, instantly.
