Posted February 22nd, 2011 and last modified February 25th, 2011

The Community First Credit Union offers credit cards, loans, saving plans, financial planning and insurance. $4.5 million Australians use some form of credit union for their financial needs, and there are plenty of reasons why. Community First Credit Union offers its customers a better value than the big 4 banks of Australia. In fact, Cannex, the Independent Financial Services Research Group did a study that confirmed that Community First gave its customers almost $2.8 million dollars more savings in rewards. Because Community First is based on its members, it is not required to pay shareholders large dividends, and as a result they are able to pass these savings onto their members.

Because they operate differently than the big 4 banks, Community First is able to offer its members better rates on home loans, more convenient ways to bank and better service. The result is an overall higher level of member satisfaction. While the average customer satisfaction rate for other banks is around 60%, members of Community First union list their satisfaction rates around 85%.

You can perform your banking requirements in a number of different and convenient ways with Community First. They have a large amount of ATMs located around the Central Coast and Sydney, over 3500 to be exact, so you can bank on the go. You can also access your accounts by telephone, mobile phone, via the Internet whenever you need to. Want to speak to someone in person? You can call their dedicated call centre weekdays from 8 am to 8 pm and on Saturdays from 9 am to 3 pm. Mobile managers are available to come to you when you need them as well. Or you can visit one of their 13 service locations.

Services And Products

You can turn to the credit union for many of your financial needs. They offer personal loans, home loans, debit cards, credit cards, many types of financial planning and insurance. Most of the services offered are listed in consumer reviews as best buys.

Because Community First members pay an allowance fee, many savings and benefits can be passed on to them. An example of this is that 60% of member do not pay any form of transaction fees. The union also doesn’t charge its members any account keeping fees.

Security

On top of being regulated by the Australian Prudential Regulation Authority or the APRA and the Australian Securities and Investment Commission or ASIC, the Community First Credit Union also supports the Credit Union Financial Support System or CUFSS. This means that you can feel secure knowing that the union meets all the necessary Australian laws and lending requirements. The union also has capital relative to assets based on risks, which is higher than that carried by other banks.
