Compare the Best AMP Term Deposit Interest Rates

Posted June 8th, 2010 and last modified November 29th, 2011

Interest rates are always a hot topic for mortgage holders, however, many people forget about the benefits of rising interest rates for investors. When official interest rates rise, Australian banks follow suit quite quickly to keep their loan products, and their savings and investment products, in a competitive market. Therefore, if you are looking for a simple investment option to take advantage of rising interest rates, consider the AMP term deposit accounts and interest rates to see if they suit your needs.

Features of AMP Term Deposits

As well as comparing the interest rates offered by each provider on your chosen investment amount and term, you need to be sure your chosen term deposit account is easy to set up and use, that you can take advantage of the features you want and need, and most importantly that your investment amount and term are on offer from the provider you are considering. Therefore, compare the features and options of AMP term deposit accounts:

  • You can start investing with AMP with as little as $5000. Moving just $5000 from your investment funds to an AMP term deposit account is a small price to pay to earn guaranteed returns and a fixed interest rate. However $5000 is also a great way to start your investment career if you are not sure which sort of investment would best suit you, and you are concerned about the risks of other investment options. There is also a minimum investment of $25,000 required if you invest for less than three months.
  • Apply online or by post. You can apply for an AMP term deposit account when and how it suits you. If you have a spare 10 minutes in your lunch break that is all the time you will need to fill in your personal details and investment choices using an online application form. Or if you only have the time to print an application form, you can put it in your bag and pull it out again when you have a moment to sit down and read through the information you need to provide.
  • Receive your interest returns before maturity. If you invest in an AMP term deposit for 12 months or longer, you can choose to receive interest payments monthly, quarterly, six monthly or annually. Receiving an interest income is as easy as entering your bank account details in your application form, and payments can be made automatically on the schedule you have chosen. You can also choose to receive your interest payments by cheque or electronic transfer during your term or at maturity, on all terms, but cheque payments are not available on 13 month terms.
  • Alternative AMP term deposit interest rates for interest income. If you choose to receive your interest during your term you will earn a slightly lower interest rate for the entire investment. If you choose monthly returns your interest rate will be reduced by 0.20%; if you choose quarterly returns your interest will be reduced by 0.10%; and if you choose six monthly returns your interest will be reduced by 0.05%.

Current AMP Term Deposit Interest Rates

Before you decide whether an AMP term deposit account is right for you, you need to compare AMP term deposit interest rates on the term and investment amount which you are comfortable investing. On an investment amount between $5000 and $24,999, with interest paid at maturity:

  • You can earn 5.30% interest on a 3 month term.
  • You can earn 5.15% interest on a 12 month term.
  • You can earn 5.50% interest on a 5 year term.
